PM Modi Praises Implementation of Ayushman Bharat Scheme in West Bengal, Aims to Enhance Healthcare Access
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the West Bengal government’s decision to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme, a significant step towards enhancing healthcare access in the state. This initiative, which provides health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh annually for eligible households, aligns with the central government’s efforts to expand welfare programs. Modi emphasized that the “double-engine government,” referring to coordination between state and central leadership, will facilitate effective delivery of key services to the people.
West Bengal’s Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced the implementation of the program shortly after his government’s formation, highlighting a commitment to ‘Asol Poriborton’ or ‘real change’ in the state’s governance. The BJP’s victory in the recent elections marks a historic shift in West Bengal’s political landscape, securing 207 out of 294 assembly seats, which has paved the way for a new direction in policy implementation. The loss of significant power for the Trinamool Congress, which fell to 80 seats, indicates a substantial change in the electorate’s preference.
The introduction of Ayushman Bharat is expected to significantly benefit the poor and vulnerable populations in West Bengal, increasing access to quality healthcare and reducing financial burdens. This strategy embodies the BJP’s broader vision of extending its welfare initiatives across the country, while also addressing regional needs. With anticipated synergies from state and central governance, the effectiveness of these healthcare schemes will likely be closely monitored in the coming months to assess their impact on the population’s health outcomes.
