Ally Congress Calls for Enhanced Coordination with Ruling NC to Address Key Public Issues.

Congress has emphasized the necessity for improved coordination with the National Conference (NC) in Jammu and Kashmir to address significant public concerns following their alliance in the 2024 Assembly elections. Ghulam Ahmad Mir, a senior Congress leader, articulated that mutual understanding and cooperation between coalition parties are vital for effective governance and public welfare. He underlined that the NC must acknowledge the contributions of its coalition partner to foster a functional alliance.

Mir’s remarks follow accusations from NC president Dr. Farooq Abdullah, who claimed Congress had not adequately pushed for Statehood restoration. In response to the growing tensions, Congress indicated it would refrain from participating in the Cabinet of the Omar Abdullah government until Statehood is reinstated. This reflects deeper concerns within the alliance regarding governance and the fulfillment of political commitments promised to the electorate.

The coalition’s stability may be at risk, as evidenced by previous discontent arising from the Rajya Sabha elections and ongoing dissatisfaction related to administrative effectiveness. As the NC claimed 42 seats in the 90-member Assembly while Congress secured only six, the balance of power within the coalition necessitates that both parties align their strategies and priorities to maintain relevance in J&K’s complex political landscape.
